What to look for when choosing a desk for remote working?

What to look for when choosing a desk for remote working?

Remote working - it existed long before. And it worked quite well! The world's mastery of the currently ongoing pandemic - has significantly increased the proportion of remote working in the daily lives of many of us, often regardless of our profession. More and more remote jobs are appearing, we are more and more willing to apply for them and it has already become the absolute norm that when we design houses or flats - we also plan our… home offices in them.

So let's consider: what kind of desk to choose and how to plan the space so that it effectively fulfils its role? What should you pay particular attention to?

How to design a remote workspace?

The most important elements in a home office? Light. Preferably natural, of course! Silence - preferably behind a tightly closed door. Of course: this is not always possible. Each of us has completely different needs and possibilities. We don't necessarily have to have an entire independent room, sometimes just a separate corner of the bedroom or living room. However, regardless of the size – the focal point is usually the desk, which carries the weight of the main role.

An appropriately chosen chair and lamp are equally important. Comfort and health are undisputedly the most important things, so it is also worth bearing these in mind. A comfortable, correct and healthy working position ensures that we avoid unpleasant discomforts. The right lighting is also important. It is always important to bear in mind that we need to sit properly and comfortably, have enough space to work freely (if only with a mouse) and have the right light so as not to harm our own eyes when sitting in front of screens or looking through documents.

What kind of desk to choose for your home?

First of all, we should estimate the most suitable size. How big a desk do we need? What will ultimately go on it? If it's just a laptop and a mug of coffee, we can go for something much smaller than if we use several monitors or have rows of binders with documents. Do we need just a work surface? Or do we also care about a few drawers and shelves for storage?

For a Scandinavian-style interior - a perfect choice might be a desk with wooden top, on white legs, with white cohesive drawers. It will pair perfectly with almost any type of chair. When the flat is kept in its original loft atmosphere, of course, the best option will be a wooden desk on metal legs. This is the quintessence of the industrial style and its warmed version, the loft style - wood, metal and rawness of form. How about a corner desk? This, in turn, is a common choice when we need to manage space for quite a lot of computer equipment, bins, documents.

Home office desk - complete or solo?

There is no rule that dictates a desk to match the rest of the furniture. We don't have to choose the whole set at all. A desk for the home can be slightly different from a bookcase or a wardrobe present in the same room. Therefore, we can boldly opt for a desk in a different style or colour, let's not impose anything on ourselves in this regard.

The home office is a place for work, inspiration and often also meetings. Order, comfort and the conformity of details to our taste - are so important here that they can make everyday work much easier if we use them properly. After all, it is here, at our desk - where important decisions are made, creative projects are developed, intensive discussions take place and solutions to our customers' problems are sought.
