The brick wall has become an absolute interior design hit in recent years, and designers are outdoing themselves in coming up with ever newer combinations to highlight the raw character of this decorative element. How to match a brick interior wall to a particular style? We have prepared a short guide for you!
Brick interior walls in rooms add a very specific, both industrial and cosy character. Depending on the style, they can be associated with history, but also with raw modernity. You are probably looking here for inspiration to create your own unique brick wall – we will tell you about 5 techniques to help you achieve this.
Whitewashing – milk of lime
The formation of a white coating on red bricks is most easily achieved using a solution of lime and water. It paints exactly as easily as paint, but does not leave an unpleasant chemical smell. The more layers you apply, the deeper the whitening will be and the stronger the effect of brightening up the room. You can successfully use lime only on the spaces between the bricks, which will effectively bring out their natural shade. The painting tools can help you with this.
Various brick colours
If your style is boho, art deco or if the exposed wall is in a children's room, you can give each brick a different colour to create a unique, unrepeatable mosaic. With the help of paint, you can also create a painting on the wall, a so-called mural. Bricks in rooms decorated in classic, minimalist styles do not have to be monochromatic either; colours that work well on a brick wall include cool blue, chocolate brown or green interspersed with gold.
A good alternative to painting are paintings. You can hang them anywhere and thanks to the patches and Velcro mounting you can change their position.
Frames and wall gallery
An interesting solution that is gaining more and more followers is to supply a brick wall with frames. These can cover both its entire height and length or appear only on parts of it, creating the illusion of a collage. A solution that will modernise yet accentuate a brick wall is to adorn it with mirrors in massive, ornamental frames.
Contrasting textures
A very interesting juxtaposition will be the combination of a brick wall in its natural hue with a modern, minimalist decor dominated by colours such as white, black and grey. Also, the combination of cool Scandinavian design elements with the vibrant and warm colour of red or orange bricks will give an effect of amazing contrast and variety. Raw walls will be accentuated by smooth and shiny cabinet fronts, natural wood finished coffee tables, consoles, shelves or suede sofas.
Industrial and loft style
The bare brick wall is a great focal point for creating an industrial or loft style home. Post-factory spaces, full of industrial accessories, austere metal furniture and dark colours, get a boost of energy and warmth when real red brick appears in the background. However, if you would like to stay true to neutral and dark colours, paint the bricks black.
As you can see for yourself, a brick wall inside the house is extremely easy to fit into any style or to create a contrast with it, which will further emphasise the unique character of the interior. Remember, a brick wall has more than one name and the only limit to styling is your imagination!
