Back to school - the perfect desk for students

Back to school - the perfect desk for students

September is coming - the month that slowly heralds the end of summer. Most young people associate it with school, which they must return to on its first day. Others are just beginning their educational journey. It is then, and most often still in August, that the buying of supplies, teaching materials and furniture closely related to learning begins. One of the more important ones, being heavily used by every student, is a desk. How to choose one that will prove ideal for a young person expanding their knowledge? What should you look for when making your selection?

Desk Height - Does It Matter?

One of the basic elements we should pay attention to when buying a desk is its height. There is no single optimal value - it must be adjusted to the child's height. When sitting, the desk should be at the height of their diaphragm. Then the most comfortable use is possible.

Children grow very quickly, which can be a problem in matching this parameter to their needs. The golden mean would be to choose a desk that allows height adjustment - then it can "grow" along with the student's age.

Size Is the Basis of Ergonomics

Not only the height, but also the size of the tabletop is crucial here. Although much depends on how much space you have in the room, it provides the student with workspace - it is important that there is enough of it. Consider that not only notebooks, books and similar materials will end up on the desk - if not immediately, then after some time. A computer or monitor will also appear on it. So it is worth including this in your choice in advance. If the desk is located in a corner, we can use this to our advantage - then choose a corner variant, like the oak model B-182. This way, you will gain more workspace with little loss of space in the room.

Storage Space Is Key to Organization

Not all items and supplies are needed by the student right away, but it would be better if they were nearby. Thus, it is important to choose a desk for a student equipped with drawers and storage compartments that will allow them to remove excess items from the tabletop (the main workspace) while maintaining quick and easy access to them. It is not their quantity that is most important here, but their skillful arrangement. After all, a student desk is primarily about ergonomics. Cabinets and drawers should not intrude or, importantly, take away legroom. Consider that the latter must be adapted not only to the particular student, but also to the chair on which they will sit.

Not Only What Kind, But Also "Where"

Before choosing a desk for a student, we should (and indeed must) consider where it will stand. This is crucial, among other things, when choosing its size. The desk should be positioned so that:

  • it is not facing with the back to the window - then sunlight may directly reflect on the monitor surface, if there is one;
  • it is facing sideways or with the back to the window - then the light will fall perfectly at any time of day;
  • it uses all possible space - if you have a lot of space, do not hesitate to allocate it all to this piece of furniture. The student will appreciate the workspace it provides.

If your child's room already has chests of drawers, bookcases or an unused closet, you do not need to buy a desk with large dimensions or lots of storage space. This function can also be performed by other furniture.

Appearance - Pay Attention to This Too

Although this parameter should be the least priority when buying a student desk, appearance matters a lot. Especially if the student is a teenager. The task is difficult because you must combine your own design ideas with the child's taste. They must feel good and comfortable in their room - a desk they do not like will not be used with the same joy as one chosen with their input.

When looking at appearance, remember that children's tastes change as they age. What may appeal to them when young (when they tend to be more tolerant and pay less attention to detail) may turn out to be tacky in the future. An excellent solution may be to choose timeless classics - a wooden desk like the oak model B-183 with black structural elements will work well in almost any interior and will not "age". A good option is also to match the desk with other furniture already present in the student's room. Since they like those, they will like the desk too, and the whole solution will certainly match your design preferences.

Summary

There are many things that affect a student's learning efficiency. One of the more important ones is the desk, which is an essential tool in the fight for better grades, broader knowledge and motivation to learn. Never underestimate its choice, always opting for the most ergonomic one, adapted to a particular interior, but also simply well thought out in terms of design. At the same time, do not hesitate to spend a little more money on it - this is an expense that significantly translates into quality of life, regardless of the student's age.
