In order to decorate your own house or apartment in the most appropriate and coherent way, you must take care to choose the appropriate style. Coherence is a very important thing, and a unified style will allow you to achieve just that. While the fashion for Scandinavian style is slowly fading, vintage style, which fits almost any interior while being a guarantee that it will not go out of fashion too soon, is coming back into favor. How to arrange your own interiors precisely in its rhythm? We will tell you about it in our post today.
Vintage Style - Is It Actually Communist-Era Aesthetic?
There is no fooling ourselves - vintage style in Poland had its origins during the communist era, with which it is still associated today, albeit in an increasingly positive context. As the communist regime somewhat imposed the use of a certain style in furniture and design elements (choice was simply not available), people for a long time perceived this style strongly stereotypically - as something bad, forced and passe. Today the vintage style is more popular, but also very well treated, and objects known from childhood find their second life in modern arrangements.
Vintage-Style Furniture - Let's Start with Them
Wanting to embrace vintage style, we should start with the larger sized elements and it is around them that we realize our whole design idea. What we put first should depend on the room we want to focus on at the moment. Thus, if we want to finish the kitchen, we can pay most attention to the kitchen fronts, necessarily with vintage-style handles, but also to the tables, at which we will spend a lot of time. Decorating the living room, in turn, we should pay most attention to the sofa, which is its most essential part. The same applies to the bedroom, where the choice of bed turns out to be crucial.
While the ideal solution in the case of furniture is to use those that we have owned for several decades and that our great-grandmother or grandmother used, an option may also be visiting the so-called flea market, where we can buy something interesting for a pittance, most often requiring a slight renovation. However, there is a high probability (understandable, by the way) that we will want to buy something new, straight from the store - not everyone likes to use someone else's furniture, and most prefer to go for those actually their own. Fortunately, many home decor stores, including ours, have adapted to the huge demand for vintage furniture, offering the widest variety of variants. This gives us a tremendous scope just in terms of their selection.

The Devil Is in the Details - Vintage-Style Accessories
Vintage style is not only about large decorative and functional elements, but also about smaller accessories, which actually create its whole atmosphere and make it felt at every step. Since they are usually casual, we can buy and add to them at any time, which is also a practice very characteristic of apartments and houses decorated in this style. After all, it was in the past that such "hoarding" of furniture and household-type items was cultivated. Let us go for something with a soul, having its own history, or invest in a novelty made in vintage style. For sure, let us be interested in:
- stands and candleholders, very characteristic of this style. The possibilities here are really large, and we can invest in stands for newspapers, umbrellas or even for toilet paper, depending on the room where they are to be placed;
- plant stands, which will stylishly combine the often very distinguished vintage style with live plants. The latter will bring a lot of design freshness to our interior without breaking with its main concepts;
- mirrors - the most important element in terms of vintage style is their frame (preferably metal, copper or gold color), but also the shape - more often oval, rather than rectangular/square (the latter is characterized by too much minimalism);
- fireplace accessories - these can be very diverse, but in themselves fit perfectly into the vintage style. So if we have a fireplace in our house or apartment, it is essential to choose the most appropriate ones. Especially since we can immediately buy a whole set of them.
There are also many other things we should pay attention to when decorating a house or apartment in vintage style. We are talking, among other things, about fabrics - sheets, tablecloths or blankets, which can be associated with bygone times. In their case, it is best to choose clarity rather than brightness and mottling. Let us also remember to maintain color consistency and aim for various shades of brown and green. These are the ones that coexist best with the vintage style.
Summary
Vintage style is slowly returning to favor, and finds its basis in its versatility and timelessness. If we, too, want to arrange our own apartment following it, we need to take care of everything - from larger elements like tables, shelves and bookcases, to smaller decorations - plant stands, hangers or stands. One thing is certain - by investing in all this we can be sure that it will not go out of fashion, and will be able to accompany us for a very long time.
